Political thugs attack Jonathan’s convoy in Katsina Read full story here:

Suspected political thugs on Tuesday attacked the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan in Katsina during his campaign rally ahead of the February 14 presidential election. All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, is from the state. According to reports, trouble started when Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo; the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu; and Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina among other party officials decided to pay a courtesy visit on the late President Umar Yar’Adua’s mother, Hajiya Dada. When the President and his entourage were making their way into the Yar’Adua Quarters, several youths wielding brooms and chanting “Sai Buhari” surged forward, but security agents succeeded in dispersing them. The youths, however, went back to regroup and moved to attack Jonathan’s convoy as he was ready to leave the Yar’Adua’s residence, leading to security agents firing teargas canisters to disperse the crowd and allow the President’s convoy to speed off. As Jonathan’s entourage were heading towards the Katsina Airport, the youths threw stones at the convoy. No one is reported to have sustained any injury. Addressing a rally earlier at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in the state capital, Jonathan said he is President because the late President Umaru Yar’Adua chose him as the Vice President in 2007, adding that for this reason, he would always meet the needs of the people of the state before they ask. “But for you, I would not have been here today. It was your own son that brought me as his deputy. Anything that you want from me, we will do it without you asking for it,”Jonathan said. He listed the establishment of a federal university and the establishment of Almajiri schools among others in the state, as some of his administration’s achievements. On the issue of insecurity, Jonathan said, “We have challenges like many other countries in the world but we are still managing because of our focus. We will get through our challenges because we are working hard and you know it.” The president, however, called on electorates in the state to vote for him and Sambo so they can continue to work for the peace and progress of the state. Jonathan also visited the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumuni Usman, and assured the monarch that his administration would continue to work with the people of the state to develop the country. The Emir in his remarks said God gives power to whoever he desires, and called on politicians to always consider the interest of the masses and ensure that peace prevailed at all times in the country.
